Hypergamy is a biological instinct.
Women are the reproductive bottleneck.
Societies that don’t protect the women will eventually cease to exist. Of cos there is an option of war to plunder females.
In the past only 30% of men get to pass on their genes.
Monogamy being law in many societies stops the most competent males from hoarding all the females. Punitive Divorce laws and custody laws against men also play a part.
These men in the past had to have the ability to generate income and willing share it with the woman. So they are choosen by females who wants resources for herself and their offspring.
After all no woman marries a rich man just to swim in a tower of gold.
Men do not find wealth in the women attractive. Especially rich men who do not need their income to begin with. Health and fertility is often reflected in appearance/ complexion.
Hence the common term: youthful skin.
Younger women are more fertile.
Male biological urge is to pass on their genes means they select for appearance and age.
I mean no man marries a beautiful woman just to hold her hand.
Men in the past who are not capable of generating income do not get to pass on their genes.
Women who are not able to convince a male to share resources did not get to pass on their genes.
It’s entirely possible why there is a stereotype of women sometimes being so unreasonable.
Why? Cos if a man will put up with it and share resources with her. It’s less likely he will abandon her, after they have offspring.
I want to be clear I am not saying what is right or wrong.
Merely saying that we can observe traits that are passed on.
Competitive traits are passed on.
Negative traits were lost.
It’s why we have a natural aversion and attraction for certain traits
